Silk Weighing

Silk weighing is a niche term used by some club fitters to describe a more refined, tactile method of checking swing weight.

Instead of relying only on a traditional swing-weight scale, the builder lightly “silks” or fingers the club through their hands to feel how the weight flows from grip to head. It’s a craftsmanship technique meant to confirm whether the club’s balance matches what the numbers suggest.

This method doesn’t replace proper measurement, but it adds another layer of quality control.

Some builders use it to catch small inconsistencies that might not show up on a scale but can still affect feel or timing.

Silk weighing is about confirming that each club in a set carries the same balance and sensation during the takeaway and transition, helping the golfer move through the bag with more confidence.
