Ferrule
A ferrule is the small plastic collar that sits at the top of the hosel where the shaft enters the clubhead. Its main job is to create a clean, finished transition between the shaft and the head. While it doesn’t play a direct role in performance, it protects the shaft from sharp edges on the hosel and helps keep debris and moisture out of the joint.
In club building, a properly installed ferrule is heated and turned slightly so it seats flush and rotates into place. After the head is bonded, the ferrule is often turned and polished to blend smoothly with the shaft. If a ferrule slips or becomes misaligned, it doesn’t typically affect play, but it’s considered a cosmetic issue that builders will correct.
Ferrules contribute to the overall look and craftsmanship of a well-assembled club.
