Fade
A fade is a shot that starts slightly left of the target for a right-handed golfer and curves gently back to the right.
It’s produced when the clubface is open relative to the club path at impact, but still pointed right of the intended start line. Fades usually launch a bit higher and spin slightly more than draws, which can make them easier to control and more reliable for many players.
Fitters watch for a natural fade because it influences shaft choice, lie angle adjustments, and clubhead style.
Some golfers benefit from equipment that stabilizes the face and prevents the fade from turning into a slice. Others prefer a setup that preserves that controlled, higher-spinning flight.
Understanding a player’s typical fade helps build a club configuration that supports accuracy without limiting distance.
