Lie Angle
Lie angle is the measurement of the angle between the center of the shaft and the sole of the club when it sits properly on the ground.
It determines how the clubhead interacts with the turf and how the face is oriented at impact. If the lie angle is too upright, the toe sits off the ground and the face points left. If it’s too flat, the heel sits off the ground and the face points right. Even a degree or two can shift start direction and cause consistent misses.
Fitters adjust lie angle to help the golfer return the club to the ball in a neutral position. During a fitting, they watch where the sole contacts the ground and how the ball starts relative to the target. Irons and wedges are especially sensitive to lie angle because they strike the turf more often. A correct lie angle leads to cleaner contact, straighter starts, and more predictable ball flight across the set.
