Lie Board

A lie board is a thin plastic board used during lie angle fittings to see how the sole of the club contacts the ground at impact.

A small piece of impact tape is placed on the sole. When the golfer hits a shot off the board, the mark shows whether the heel or toe is striking first. A mark toward the toe suggests the club is too upright. A mark toward the heel suggests it’s too flat.

Fitters use the lie board as a quick visual check to confirm what ball flight is already showing. It helps pinpoint how much the lie angle needs to be adjusted and ensures the club is interacting with the turf correctly. When paired with launch monitor data, it provides a simple but effective way to fine-tune lie angle and improve both accuracy and consistency.
