Heel

Heel

The heel is the part of the clubhead closest to the shaft. When a shot is struck on the heel instead of the center, ball speed drops and the ball often curves left for right-handed golfers because the face tends to close more through impact.

Heel strikes can also lead to a harsher feel and inconsistent distance.

Fitters pay attention to heel contact because it can point to issues with setup, lie angle, shaft length, or even grip size.

If a golfer repeatedly hits the heel, the club may be too long, the lie angle too flat, or the player may be standing too close to the ball. Identifying these patterns helps the fitter choose equipment that promotes cleaner, more centered contact.
