Hook
Hook
A hook is a shot that curves sharply from right to left for a right-handed golfer.
It happens when the clubface is significantly closed relative to the club path at impact. The ball usually starts right of the target, then dives left with strong side-spin.
Hooks travel far because they often have lower spin, but the sideways curvature makes them difficult to control.
Fitters pay attention to hooks because they can point to issues with lie angle, shaft profile, face angle, or overall club setup. A club that’s too upright, a shaft that’s too soft, or a head with too much offset can make the problem worse.
Adjusting those factors can help reduce how much the ball turns over and produce a more playable, consistent flight.
