Grip Size
Grip size refers to the thickness of the grip and how it fits in a golfer’s hands.
Common sizes include undersize, standard, midsize, and jumbo, and grips can also be built up with extra tape to fine-tune the fit. A grip that’s too small can lead to extra hand action and encourage the ball to turn over more. A grip that’s too large can reduce wrist movement, often leading to pushes or a blocked ball flight.
Fitters choose grip size based on hand measurements and how the golfer naturally releases the club. The right size helps promote a comfortable, secure hold without excess tension. It also influences swing weight, since heavier or thicker grips shift balance toward the hands.
When grip size is matched properly, the golfer gains better control, more consistent contact, and a more natural release through impact.
