Grind

Grind

Grind refers to the shaping of the sole of a wedge, including how much material is removed from the heel, toe, or trailing edge.

This shaping changes how the wedge interacts with the turf and sand. Different grinds let the club sit lower to the ground, open more easily, or glide through various lie conditions. It’s one of the biggest factors in making a wedge feel versatile and reliable around the greens.

Fitters choose grinds based on the golfer’s swing style and typical course conditions.

Steeper players often need more bounce with wider soles or trailing-edge relief to prevent digging. Shallow players or those on firm turf may need a grind that keeps the leading edge closer to the ground.

When the grind matches how the golfer delivers the club, it becomes easier to hit clean, predictable shots from tight lies, rough, bunkers, and everything in between.
