Gapping
Gapping
Gapping refers to the spacing of carry distances between the clubs in your bag.
Ideally, each club should fly a predictable number of yards farther than the previous one, creating a smooth progression from wedges through long clubs. When gaps are too tight, two clubs may go the same distance. When they’re too wide, you’re left without a reliable option for certain yardages.
Fitters evaluate gapping by tracking carry distance, launch, spin, and descent angle for every club. If distances overlap or jump too far, they adjust lofts, swap models, or recommend different shaft setups.
Good gapping removes guesswork, helps you choose clubs with confidence, and ensures your set covers every shot you’ll face on the course.
