Spin Rate
Spin rate is the amount of backspin the ball has immediately after impact, measured in revolutions per minute (RPM). It plays a major role in how high the ball launches, how far it carries, how it behaves in the wind, and how quickly it stops when it lands.
Higher spin adds lift and stopping power, which is helpful with irons and wedges. Lower spin produces a flatter, more penetrating flight that often leads to more roll with the driver.
Fitters monitor spin rate closely because it needs to fall within an ideal range for each club. Too much spin with the driver can reduce distance and cause the ball to balloon. Too little spin with irons can make shots travel too low and roll out instead of holding greens. By adjusting loft, shaft profile, head design, and even ball selection, fitters fine-tune spin rate to create more consistent, efficient, and predictable ball flight throughout the bag.
