Spin Loft
Spin loft is the difference between the dynamic loft of the club at impact and the attack angle.
It’s one of the key factors that determines how much spin is put on the ball. A larger spin-loft gap produces more spin, while a smaller gap produces less. For example, a wedge with a downward attack angle and high dynamic loft creates a big spin-loft gap and therefore high spin. A driver with an upward attack angle and lower dynamic loft creates a small gap and much lower spin.
Fitters watch spin loft because it helps explain why a player’s shots launch and spin the way they do. If spin is too high, they may adjust loft, shaft profile, or work toward a more efficient delivery. If spin is too low, they may add loft or choose a head that increases launch.
Getting spin loft into the right window leads to more consistent carry distance, better control, and a more predictable ball flight.
