Shaft Profile
Instead of looking only at the overall shaft flex, fitters break the shaft into sections – butt, mid, and tip – to understand how each part loads and unloads.
A “soft” tip section can help players launch the ball higher with more spin.
A “stiffer” tip keeps launch and spin down.
The mid and butt sections influence overall feel, timing, and how the shaft responds during the transition at the top of the swing.
Fitters use shaft profiles to match a golfer’s tempo, release point, speed, and ball-flight needs. Two shafts with the same labeled flex can behave very differently because their profiles are built for different swing types.
By dialing in the right profile, fitters help the player control launch, tighten dispersion, and get a shaft that feels natural without forcing adjustments in the swing.
