Hosel

Hosel

The hosel is the part of the clubhead where the shaft is inserted and secured, usually with epoxy.

It plays a key role in setting the club’s lie angle, loft, and face angle. In adjustable clubs like modern drivers, the hosel often includes a sleeve that lets fitters change loft and face settings without rebuilding the club. In irons and wedges, the hosel’s design can also influence how easily the club can be bent for loft and lie adjustments.

Fitters pay close attention to the hosel because it’s where many fine-tuning changes happen. A properly adjusted hosel ensures the club sits correctly at address and performs as intended through impact. The length and shape of the hosel can also affect the club’s center of gravity and turf interaction.

Understanding how the hosel functions helps fitters dial in equipment that matches the golfer’s swing and produces a predictable ball flight.
