Ball Speed

Ball Speed

Ball speed is the measurement of how fast the golf ball leaves the clubface at impact.

It is one of the most important indicators of potential distance because higher ball speed generally leads to longer shots. Ball speed is influenced by swing speed, quality of contact, shaft and head design, and how efficiently the club transfers energy to the ball.

Fitters rely on ball speed to gauge whether a golfer is getting the most out of their swing.

If ball speed is low relative to swing speed, it often means contact is off center or the club isn’t well matched to the player.

Improving face contact, selecting the right shaft profile, or choosing a more forgiving head can help maximize ball speed. When ball speed increases without sacrificing control, the golfer gets more consistent distance throughout the bag.
