Seam Orientation

Seam Orientation

Seam orientation is the process of aligning the shaft so that any manufacturing seam or structural bias is positioned in the most stable orientation during the swing.

Most steel and graphite shafts have a subtle spine or seam created during production. When the shaft is oriented properly, it bends more consistently and recovers the same way from swing to swing.

Fitters and builders use seam orientation to improve feel and reduce small inconsistencies in ball flight. By placing the seam in a neutral position, often tested on a frequency analyzer or spine finder, the shaft loads and unloads more predictably. This helps the golfer get more consistent contact, tighter dispersion, and a smoother feel throughout the set.
