Doppler Radar
Doppler radar is a tracking technology that measures motion by sending out radio waves and analyzing how they bounce back after hitting a moving object. In golf, it’s used in launch monitors to track both the club and the ball through impact. As the ball moves, the frequency of the returning signal shifts, allowing the system to calculate speed, direction, and other key details with high accuracy.
Launch monitors like FlightScope and TrackMan rely on Doppler radar because it can follow the ball for its entire flight rather than just the first few feet. This produces more reliable carry distances, spin measurements, and club-delivery data. Fitters and coaches use this information to understand how equipment changes or swing adjustments influence ball flight in real conditions.
