MOI Matching
MOI matching is the process of building a set of clubs so each one has the same moment of inertia, the resistance the club has to being swung or rotated.
Instead of matching clubs by swing weight alone, MOI matching focuses on how much effort it takes to start the club moving and keep it moving through the swing. When every club in the set has the same MOI, they all require a similar amount of force to swing, which can make the set feel more consistent.
Fitters and builders use MOI matching to help golfers with timing and rhythm. Some players find that swing-weight–matched sets still feel uneven, especially at the extremes like long irons or wedges. By matching MOI instead, each club responds more uniformly, giving the golfer a smoother transition from one club to the next. The result is often better contact, tighter dispersion, and a more natural flow throughout the entire bag.
