Tip Trimming
Tip trimming is the process of cutting a shaft from the tip end to adjust how it performs.
Trimming the tip makes the shaft play stiffer, especially in the lower section near the clubhead. This change can lower launch, reduce spin, and create a more stable feel for players with faster swing speeds or aggressive transitions. Manufacturers provide trimming charts so builders know how much to cut for each club type.
Fitters use tip trimming when a golfer needs a slightly firmer profile than the standard version of the shaft provides. It’s common in fairway woods, hybrids, and irons where players want more control or a tighter ball flight. Tip trimming has a more noticeable effect on performance than butt trimming, so it’s done carefully to match the player’s swing and fitting goals.
