Butt Trimming
Butt Trimming
Butt trimming is the process of cutting a golf shaft from the grip end to achieve the correct playing length.
Unlike tip trimming, which can change how the shaft performs, butt trimming has little effect on shaft flex or profile. Its main purpose is to match the exact length recommended during a fitting so the club sits properly at address and the golfer can swing comfortably.
Builders measure twice, trim once, then install the grip to finalize the length. Even small adjustments can influence how the club feels in the player’s hands and how consistently they deliver the head.
Butt trimming is a standard part of assembling any custom-built club and helps ensure the set flows smoothly from one club to the next.
